When considering ocean freight Malaysia, LCL (Less than Container Load) emerges as a practical solution for shipments no large enough to occupy a standard 20ft or 40ft container. The cost of LCL shipment depends on its weight or volume, whichever proves higher.
Use our free Less than Container Load (LCL) calculator to obtain an instant cost estimate. Please bear in mind, 1 ton is equivalent to 1 cubic meter (1 ton = 1 cbm).
An Example of the LCL Calculator

Suppose your shipment comprises 1 box.
Determine the overall volume of your consignment:
Volume = 2.5m x 1.5m x 2m = 7.5 CBM
Calculate the Weight-based volume:
Actual weight = 600 kg (0.6 ton)
Weight-based volume = 0.6 CBM (1 ton = 1 CBM)
In this case, the Weight-based volume is less than the gross volume.
Gross volume vs Weight-based volume = 7.5 CBM vs 0.6 CBM
The chargeable volume is the greater figure, which amounts to 7.5 CBM.
Assuming the quoted freight rate of USD 50:
The total cost of LCL shipment equals 7.5 CBM x USD 50 = USD 375

To measure the volume of irregularly shaped items for shipping, measure the longest, widest, and tallest dimensions to determine length, width, and height. Consider the smallest box that can fit the item as its volume for calculation.
Once the measurements have been recorded, you may calculate with our free LCL calculator tool as previously explained.
